Joshua Turner, LPC, LAC, MAC

I began working in the mental health field in 1997.  My early career was focused on adventure-based counseling practices where I used rock-climbing, kayaking, hiking, and mountain climbing trips as personal-growth opportunities for my clients.  Over the last 29 years—along with my time as a private-practitioner—I have worked for various agencies, schools, and non-profit counseling centers in New York, Vermont, West Virginia, and South Carolina.  I have a long history of helping people of all ages and backgrounds navigate challenges and opportunities no matter what stage of life.

I bring my education, field experience, and dedication to professional development to my private practice where I am dedicated to helping you.  I am a father, a husband, a musician, an outdoorsman, and a person passionate about learning about and working with others in-person and through telehealth services.

My APPROACH

In my private practice, I bring together insights, skills, and techniques; tools drawn from the field since 1997.  Over the course of my career, I have become equipped to help people of all ages navigate:

  • Depression, anxiety, other mood spectrum disorders, and mental health diagnoses

  • Extreme self-criticism

  • Learning differences

  • Obsession

  • Substance abuse

  • Underlying aggravation, agitation, and rage

  • Unresolved trauma

  • Abuse

  • Screen-time issues

  • Pornography addiction

By examining and addressing underlying challenges like these together, I will help you build strong, healthy, mature, and satisfying relationships with both yourself and others. As you go forward, applying what you’ve learned and discovered in counseling, you’ll find yourself more emotionally available than you ever thought you could become in all of your life relationships. My qualifications allow me to apply, teach, and help you practice:

  • Conflict resolution skills

  • Advanced active listening skills

  • Effective communication of feelings skills

  • Parenting skills

  • Stress Reduction skills

My practice is a safe and supportive place for you to comprehend these skills and turn them into tools for success throughout your life.
